Choosing your day out
Split or Trogir for families: which fits your day?
Compare Split and Trogir for a family day: scale, walking, atmosphere, beaches, evening plans and how Villa Rocco sits between both cities.Split and Trogir are not substitutes for one another. Trogir is compact and easy to understand in a few hours; Split offers a larger historic centre, more neighbourhoods and more choices for a full day or evening.
Choose Trogir for a compact outing
Trogir's old town is small enough for a focused walk, an ice cream and a waterfront meal without a complicated itinerary. It is often the easier choice when younger children have limited patience or when the group wants only half a day away from the pool.
Choose Split for variety
Split combines Diocletian's Palace, the Riva, markets, restaurants and the option to continue toward Marjan. It rewards more time and suits mixed-age groups because people can split briefly and meet again.
Crowds, parking and heat can make midday harder in summer. A late-afternoon and evening visit is often more comfortable.
The advantage of staying between both
- You do not need to choose one city for the whole holiday.
- A Trogir half-day and a separate Split evening create less pressure.
- The airport remains close to the villa for arrival and departure days.
- Pool days in Kaštela give children and adults a break between city visits.
Questions before you book
Which city is easier with a stroller?
Trogir is more compact, but both historic centres have stone surfaces, steps and crowded sections. A lightweight stroller or carrier can help.
Which city is better in the evening?
Both work well. Trogir feels compact and maritime; Split offers more restaurants, promenades and later options.
Do we need a car?
A car is useful for flexibility, but taxis and ride-hailing can be easier when nobody wants to park or drive after dinner.
